5 Places to fossil hunt

For some children, dinosaurs are the most exciting animals in the world. Of course there are lots of wonderful museums with beautiful exhibitions, but what if your children could find and collect their own fossilised fragments of these amazing creatures?! Well, they can!

Whether you buy a brick hammer / geologists pick or you simply find a rock to bash and expose fossils from their rocks. You might find that fossil hunting is a super cheap family day out. Our local coasts have some of the best fossil locations in the country and another great point is that the best fossil beaches are generally quietest.

www.ukfossils.co.uk has a fantastic resource of information to get you started. They also have an app for on the go :-)

Safety first - bare in mind that coastline can be dangerous places. Be prepared, wear protective equipment and familiarise yourself with local tide information. If you have safety concerns seek advice.
